Trump’s press secretary fields Epstein questions after president lashes out against ‘hoax’ theories: Live

Which Republicans are still defending Trump and Bondi over Epstein

Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and death in prison have been central to the years-long, overlapping conspiracy theories that have put the world’s most powerful people at the center of an alleged criminal network of traffickers and child predators.

But now the president dismisses Epstein’s case as a “hoax,” a “scam,” and “bull****,” and even asked a room of reporters why anyone is “still talking” about a sex offender “nobody cares about.”

Full story: White House claims Epstein case is ‘hoax’ because Democrats are talking about it

Andrew Feinberg reports from the White House:

The White House is struggling to explain President Donald Trump’s insistence that the bipartisan clamor for release of case files from the prosecution of deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein is part of a “hoax” generated by his political adversaries as some of the president’s most fervent supporters continue to press for more transparency around the notorious case.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday faced pointed questions from reporters on why Trump continues to lash out and insist there’s nothing to see regarding the prosecution of the famous sex trafficker, with whom he maintained a friendship for years.

Johnson says ‘all credible evidence should come out’ about Epstein

The Hill asked Speaker Mike Johnson if he would put forward a measure regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files.

He responded: “The House Republicans are for transparency and they’re looking for a way to say that. They agree with the White House; we agree with the president. Everything he said about that, all the credible evidence should come out. I’ve been very clear, the members have been very clear. The House Rules Committee Republicans have been taking incoming criticism because they voted to stop the Democrats’ politicization of this, and they’re trying to stick to their job and move the procedural rules to the floor so we can do our work and get the rescissions done for the American people. They are for transparency, just as we all are, and we are looking for ways to express that. That’s all it is.”

“With deep respect for the victims, their trauma and their privacy, everyone on the Epstein list must be held accountable no matter who they are. Release the files.”

Report: Trump vents that MAGA won’t ‘shut the f*** up’ about Epstein list controversy

Conservative commentator Candace Owens decried the scandal as a “terminal cancer to the MAGA movement.” Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson argued: “The fact that the U.S. government, the one that I voted for, refused to take my question seriously and instead said, ‘Case closed, shut up conspiracy theorist,’ was too much for me.”

“They won’t shut the f*** up about it,” Trump privately fumed over his prominent supporters’ complaints, a source told Rolling Stone.

Kelly Rissman has the story.
