Zarah Sultana launched a blistering attack on her own party’s leadership in her only speech at the conference of the party she co-founded, accusing them of conducting ‘undemocratic’ purges and warning the fledgling movement must not become ‘Labour 2.0’. The co-founder finally entered the Your Party conference in Liverpool on its second day to deliver a defiant speech condemning the expulsion of Socialist Workers Party members and other socialist groups.

“The expulsions, the bans, the censorship on the conference floor are undemocratic,” she told delegates. “It’s an attack on members and this movement.” Ms Sultana insisted “those decisions were made at the top, and not by you,” adding: “These actions come out of the Labour right’s playbook.”

“I will not stand for this,” she declared to applause. “I did not leave the Labour Party, you did not leave the Labour Party, to create another Labour Party.”

She warned: “This party must never be captured from above, this party must never become a Labour 2.0.”

The speech marked a dramatic escalation in her public feud with co-founder Jeremy Corbyn, though she was careful to praise him personally, saying she had “an enormous amount of admiration and respect for” the former Labour leader.

“He gave us hope when he became leader of the Labour Party,” she added.

Ms Sultana apologised for the chaotic launch of the party, admitting: “You may have noticed that the process of starting up this party has had some hiccups. Some of that is my fault and for that I am sorry.”

But she insisted: “My aim from the very start is to make sure that this party is led by you the members, not the MPs.”

Turning her fire on the Labour Government, Ms Sultana branded Sir Keir Starmer’s administration “weak and pathetic,” claiming it was “pushed this way and that by the political winds” and influenced by “parasites”.

She launched a fierce attack on the Government’s immigration rhetoric, saying: “The real enemy of the working class travels by private jet, not migrant dinghy. So it’s not about stopping the boats, it’s about stopping the private jets.”

In another incendiary line, she claimed: “When Farage says ‘kick an immigrant’, Starmer says ‘how hard’.”

Ms Sultana also called for the abolition of the monarchy, telling the conference: “We should not just abolish Andrew’s titles, we should abolish the monarchy itself.”

She re-announced her support for minority groups, saying: “We stand with our trans-siblings, with Muslims, with migrants, with the most marginalised.”

The former Labour MP set out an ambitious socialist agenda, calling for sweeping nationalisations that would go far beyond traditional public services.

“Control of our economy has to be taken away from the hands of parasitical profiteers,” she said. “We are here for a fundamental transformation of society to replace capitalism with socialism.”

Ms Sultana pledged to “reverse the failed experiments of Thatcherism” by nationalising privatised industries, before going further.

“We must seek new horizons,” she said, calling for state control of “the banking industry, food and construction.”

She painted an optimistic vision of the party’s future despite the turmoil, telling delegates: “If we win we will hand over a world renewed for future generations.”

Ms Sultana insisted the country was “rigged to protect the rich and powerful, who bought and paid for it,” and argued only radical socialist transformation could address inequality.

The speech received a standing ovation from delegates.
