Furious Nick Ferrari tears Labour’s plan to shreds in four lethal words | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
LBC host Nick Ferrari told listeners on this morning’s show he does not believe the Home Office’s planned “overhaul” of human rights laws will go far enough during a ferocious monologue on the news show. It follows claims that dozens of “dangerous” foreign criminals cannot be deported due to human rights laws.ย
The LBC broadcaster began: “Here’s what the Home Secretary is talking about. Human rights laws will be overhauled to limit how failed asylum seekers, foreign criminals, and, of course, people who are engaged in terrorist acts can claim a right to family life to dodge deportation. A family will be defined as parents and their children under the new Home Office plans.”
He raged: “Give me a break. Do you think that will make the slightest bit of difference?”
Continuing, he added: “Meanwhile, judges will be ordered to prioritise public safety and immigration controls over Article eight of the European Convention on Human Rights.
“Just get out of the ECHR. It is so straightforward. And those of you who are saying, ‘I can’t believe you’ll do that, we will be like Russia…’
“Well, the last time I looked, Australia, New Zealand – I won’t go all around the world, but you know the point – they don’t need to be in the ECHR. You don’t need to be in this convention.
“Can any of you give me a cogent argument as to why we should not, as the Shadow Home Secretary just said, serve notice this afternoon: We will be leaving the ECHR in the middle of next year, and good riddance.”
A Government spokesperson said: โWe have been clear that the UK is committed to the European Convention on Human Rights and we do not need to withdraw to deliver meaningful reform.
โThe Governmentโs immigration white paper sets out new plans to tighten the application of article 8 of the ECHR โ giving courts the clarity they need so our immigration rules are no longer abused.โ
