Politics LIVE: Nigel Farage to make first major announcement of 2026 | Politics | News

Nigel Farage will hold his first press conference of 2026 this morning, as he aims to tee up Reform for yet another astonishing year of drama, announcements and election wins.

While Mr Farage’s announcement remains a closely-guarded secret, it’s thought today’s press conference may see the Reform chief outline plans to oppose Labour’s rise in fuel duty, and pledge to cut the cost of living ahead of this May’s local elections.

Thousands of councillors will be up for grabs in this year’s local elections, as will the entirety of the Welsh and Scottish parliaments, and the London assembly.

The next few months will be entirely geared towards the crunch votes, as Reform and the Greens aim to prove their poll surges are real, and Labour and the Tories try to prevent obliteration.

Following Mr Farage’s speech will be the first PMQs of the year, as Sir Keir Starmer goes head-to-head with Kemi Badenoch following a tumultuous start to the year entirely overshadowed by Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela.
