The Government’s new Special Education Needs funding is insufficient, teaching unions have claimed. The criticism was raised on BBC breakfast this morning as the government announced £4billion of additional funding to support children with SEND needs.

Georgia Gould MP, the Minister for School Standards said it was a “really significant investment”, adding that the new funding was on top of billions already announced. She added that the funding announcement was coming from “our spending review package” and had been “put aside”, as she dismissed questions as to what would be cut or changed to pay for it.

The funding will be supplemented by £3.5billion more in the next few years to “fund the system for the long term” the Minister added.
