Donald Trump made history on Tuesday night (February 24) with his State of the Union address, which lasted approximately one hour and 48 minutes – the longest speech before a joint session of Congress since 1964.
Whilst the President’s speech may have descended into chaos as he lamented being denied a third term in office, his son, Barron William Trump, also attracted attention. In contrast to his father, Trump’s fifth and youngest child received commendation on social media after a discreet gesture towards his mother, Melania, was captured on camera.
This occurred after the President acknowledged his wife’s initiatives centred around youth and artificial intelligence, prompting a standing ovation from their Republican colleagues. While everyone else rose to their feet, 19-year old Barron Trump respectfully waited for the First Lady to stand before joining in the applause.
Political commentator, Dom Lucre, later highlighted this on X: “Baron Trump waited for his mother Melania to stand up after the President called on her before he stood. He doesn’t play about his momma.”
One individual responded with praise: “He has so much respect for his mom, Melania… something many of our kids don’t have nowadays.” Another observed: “I don’t do a lot of celebrity watching, so only see Barron at things like this. One thing anyone could say about the young man is he was raised properly. He has old world charm about him. He is going to do something big and it will be all his own, something he’s built.”

A third concurred: “That’s actually a classy little moment if it happened like that. Public events are choreographed down to the second but small gestures still stand out. Waiting for your mom to rise first? That reads as respect more than anything.”
Whilst a fourth X user quipped: “Now I’m not saying he wasn’t loving his momma in a respectful way but he may just be too tall and need to give his legs a break!”
Earlier, Trump reiterated his claims he had been denied an unlawful third term in office after “strange things happened” in the 2020 election. The President has repeatedly made false claims about election fraud “stealing” the election from him. In truth, he lost the election to Joe Biden by several million votes.
During his adress, Trump urged those in attendance to stand if they believed their duty was to protect US citizens rather than “illegal aliens”.

Trump faced significant criticism over his mass deportation programme following the deaths of two US citizens at the hands of ICE immigration agents during the enforcement operation in Minnesota.
He specifically targeted people of Somali heritage, labelling them “pirates” and alleging fraud and corruption. “The Somali pirates who ransacked Minnesota remind us that there are large parts of the world where bribery, corruption, and lawlessness are the norm, not the exception,” he said.
“Importing these cultures through unrestricted immigration and open borders brings those problems right here, to the USA – and it is the American People who pay the price, in higher medical bills, car insurance rates, rent, taxes, and perhaps most importantly, crime. We will take care of this problem.”
