Politics LIVE: Reform to expose ‘shocking scandal’ about Reeves | Politics | News
The Conservatives have warned that British Democracy is “under attack” as they seek to amend the Representation of the People Bill today. Senior Tories intend to reduce foreign interference and gerrymandering and claim that Labour has failed to engage with political parties on changes to election law.
Sir James Cleverly MP said: “British democracy is under attack. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, foreign cyber-attacks on British politicians and institutions, and the transnational repression and espionage by the Chinese state, have all exposed the scale of the risks we now face.”
He added: “The Labour Government talks about empowering people to engage in democracy, but they have unlawfully tried to cancel elections in gerrymandering that would shame even a tinpot dictatorship. They are weakening the laws on electoral fraud in a cynical move to obtain a partisan advantage.”
