Masters 2026 live updates: Round 3 latest with leaderboard, tee times, how to watch as Rory McIlroy leads by six
Rory McIlroy‘s first-round performance was magnificent, earning him a share of first place with a 5-under 67.
On Friday, McIlroy took it to another level. The defending Masters champion posted a 7-under 65 to open up a 6-stroke lead over the field.
At 1 over for the round heading into the 12th hole, McIlroy birdied on six of the final seven holes. He became the first defending Masters champion to shoot 12 under through 36 holes, setting the mark by three strokes. His best trick may have been on the 17th hole, where he chipped in a shot from 29 feet out to draw rousing applause from the crowd at Augusta.
Maybe an even more confounding question than if anyone can catch him: what magic is he going to pull off next?
