Sir Keir Starmer is facing mounting pressure to face an investigation by a powerful Westminster committee over the Lord Mandelson scandal.

It comes after Kemi Badenoch and Sir Ed Davey reportedly urged the Speaker to press for the Privileges Committee – the body that brought down Boris Johnson – to pose questions to the current Prime Minister.

The Tory leader claims the Prime Minister could have misled the House of Commons by saying that due process was followed with the disgraced peer’s appointment as ambassador to the US, and that no pressure was put on the Foreign Office over the Labour grandee’s vetting.

They were joined by MP Karl Turner, who was elected under the Labour banner but later suspended for opposing government changes to jury trials.
