Labour faces losses of more than 75% of the council seats it is defending in the upcoming May elections, a polling guru has predicted.

Lord Robert Hayward said Sir Keir Starmer’s party will be defeated in 1,850 seats in England, while the Tories will lose 600.

Nigel Farage’s Reform UK is expected to be the main beneficiary of both of the two major parties gaining some 1,550 seats, largely in white working class areas outside of London.

The insurgent Green Party will take 500 seats largely in London and traditionally middle class areas of other major cities, the Conservative peer and pollster said.
