How to vote in May 7 election and where your local polling station is | Politics | News

Millions of people across the UK will vote on May 7 with polling day drawing near. People across Scotland and Wales will choose members of their parliaments, while England will hold local council and mayoral elections.

In England, over 5,000 seats are being contested across 136 local authorities. This includes all 32 London boroughs. Over six million people alone in London can vote, so it’s important that if you want to vote, you get down on May 7 and have your say.

Once this is done, voters will see a list of addresses, scroll to find the correct one, and it will reveal who they can vote for. This will also tell voters where their local polling station is and its opening times.

  • your age
  • your nationality
  • where you live

You may also need to show photo ID when voting in person in some UK elections or referendums. Youโ€™ll need it to vote in:

As counting begins after 10pm, when many polling stations close, many official sources suggest the results should become clearer as we all wake up. A handful of results may come in during the early hours, with some London boroughs having different expected times for declarations. The majority of results, including in Scotland, will be clear by Friday evening.
