Not just Starmer facing electoral oblivion โ€“ this leader’s doomed too | Politics | News

Ed Davey

Ultimately, silly stunts won’t save Lib Dem leader Ed Davey, says Esther McVey (Image: Getty / Express)

Whilst much has been written about Starmer being for the chop โ€“ not much has been written about the Lib Dem leader Ed Davey’s demise, but that too has been brewing for a long time. The Lib Dem ship steered by ex-Post Office Minister Ed Davey โ€“ he of many silly stunts โ€“ isnโ€™t a happy one. Many in his party see the Greens rather than them benefiting from Labourโ€™s demise and want their pantomime leader gone.

Most damaging for Davey is the revelations about him pocketing ยฃ275,000 working for the legal firm that fought hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters wrongly accused of fraud. The local elections could be the final straw for the Lib Dems. Expect ambitious Daisy Cooper to be their new leader sooner rather than later.

If you’ve got it, flaunt it

Swimwear is big business for celebs and given the worldwide market is worth a whopping ยฃ77BILLION a year, who can blame them for cashing in on it. Geri Halliwell, Kelly Brook and the Kardashians all have their own range, but it’s Myleene Klass’s white bikini, based on the one she wore on I’m a Celebrityโ€ฆ 20 years ago, that is apparently this year’s hot look.

With that amount of money at stake, no wonder they say if youโ€™ve got it, flaunt it!

Another Lords victory

Another victory for the House of Lords last week, as Peers forced Labour to do a U-Turn on its outrageous Pensions Bill provision that would have given the government control over how our pension schemes invested our own money.

Baroness Bowles, leading the charge, rightly pointed out the absurdity of a government wanting to choose what to do with retirement savings โ€œrather than the experienced professionals and trustees who must operate in peopleโ€™s best interestsโ€.

She added: โ€œThe Government isnโ€™t the expert on pension investments.โ€ How right she is. To be fair this hopeless government arenโ€™t experts on anything, from what I can tell.

This weekโ€™s prize for most useless public service is won by National Highways which supposedly manages our motorways.

Road to disaster

Not only are the state of the roads in an unacceptable condition, but is it just me who drives down huge sections of the motorway network with unnecessary 50mph speed restrictions in place warning of queues ahead when there is nothing at all on the road?

These prize clowns at National Highways are supposed to be displaying signs based on their monitoring of the traffic. Either they are all utterly useless at their job, or these pointless speed restrictions have been put in place to rustle up more money for the Treasury through fines for speeding.

Either way, the interim Chief Executive of National Highways โ€“ Nick Joyce โ€“ either needs to get a grip or be moved on swiftly.

Socialism is our biggest threat

Former military chief and co-author of the strategic defence review General Sir Richard Barrons has said Britain’s armed forces can only ‘think about’ preparing for war as a lack of funding means there is no money to buy new weapons until 2030.

What a disgrace. This government can find money for all its pet projects, tens of billions for benefits, a billion a year for Starmer’s EU reset payment and billions for GB Energy and net zero chicanery but can’t find money for our armed forces to defend the realm which should be the first duty of any government.

Socialism is the single biggest threat to every aspect of our country.
