Zack Polanski failed to pay the correct amount of council tax on his ยฃ100,000 London houseboat, despite demanding others pay more. The Green Party leader snuck out an apology late in the evening as all eyes were on No10 in what one critic described as “staggering”. Mr Polanski, 43, has claimed it was an “unintentional mistake” with a spokesman confirming that he had taken steps to pay any outstanding amount.

He only did so after extensive media reporting forced him to confirm that he was on the electoral roll at the marina where he kept the luxury narrow boat, The Olympian. The former-hypnotherapist, who once claimed he could increase the size of a woman’s bust with the power of the human mind, had told the press he only stayed there “occasionally” when initially challenged. He also repeatedly called for high taxes on the wealthy, and called on Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, to step aside after his tax affairs were questioned.

The luxury vessel was recently advertised for sale, it has been reported, and described in that advert as his “amazing home” before the glossy advertorial was mysteriously removed ahead of the admission.

It is understood the Green Party leader, who serves as a member of the London Assembly, was reported to officials to demand a City probe into the affair.

Mr Polanski’s Conservative rivals slammed the revelation, with Party Chairman Kevin Hollinrake accusing him of “staggering hypocrisy”.

He added: “Zack Polanski cannot lecture families across the country about paying more when he apparently wouldn’t even meet his own obligations in full.

“The British public will see this for exactly what it is. One rule for Zack Polanski, another for everyone else.”

Council tax, according to official guidance, is payable on a boat if it is someone’s sole or main residence.

It means, based on local rates, Mr Polanski could owe three years of tax, or around ยฃ4,000 according to analysis by tax lawyer Dan Neidle, from Tax Policy Associates.

A Green Party spokesman told the Daily Mail: “Until relatively recently, Zack was living on a houseboat, which came with its own unique practical circumstances and considerations. He has immediately taken steps to pay any council tax he may be found to owe.

“Zack apologies sincerely for the unintentional mistake.

“For security reasons, we do not comment publicly on Zack’s address. There have recently been two serious incidents which have been reported to the police and are under investigation.”

Mr Polanski could now face a sleaze probe after critics claim he did not adhere to the principles of “integrity, honesty, accountability and leadership” expected of members of the assembly.
