One in eight people aged 16 to 24 in the UK are not in education, employment or training (Neet), this could rise to one in six young people by 2031.

The report released today will reveal that this could soon stand at 1.25 million people as the government faces growing calls to act.

Publishing his report, he is expected to say: โ€œSix in 10 have never had a job. Twenty years ago, that figure was closer to four in 10.

โ€œDetachment is no longer temporary. For too many young people it is becoming permanent. We are at risk of a lost generation.โ€
