Starmer and Burnham couldn’t run a bath โ€“ Blair knew how to win | Politics | News

Itโ€™s been hilarious this week watching two of the countryโ€™s most bungling, inept politicians savaging Tony Blair, the bloke who was Labourโ€™s longest-ever serving leader and who ran this country incredibly successfully for a decade. Starmer and Burnham went for Blairโ€™s jugular because heโ€™d had the audacity to tell the truth about the pigโ€™s ear this Government is making of running the country.

But Blair said nothing the rest of us didnโ€™t already know โ€“ that Labourโ€™s problem is that it has no coherent plan (true). He said that it had ignored immigration (true). He said it had been too cowardly to cut the bloated benefits bill (true). He said it was driving businesses into the ground (true). He also warned the Party not to lurch to the Left, because that was why it had just been slaughtered in the local elections (also true).

Yet instead of taking on board what Blair โ€“ who when he was PM had 93% approval ratings as opposed to Starmerโ€™s MINUS 48% โ€“ said, these two buffoons who couldnโ€™t run a bath let alone a country, got out their handbags and battered him. Burnham even had the brass neck to say Blair had no clue what was going on in modern politics. This from the bloke who isnโ€™t even an MP and has been a city mayor for the last eight years and whose only job has been to give away taxpayerโ€™s money.

Heโ€™s also the man who was twice rejected as party leader precisely because he didnโ€™t know or understand what was going on in politics. And also, because he was lacklustre, boring and indecisive to boot. Even now Burnham is out of touch. He bangs on about Blair not understanding inequality when the biggest inequality has been created by this government. We now have a society where people can work like dogs and still be paid less than people who sit on their backsides all day languishing on benefits.

And both Starmer and Burnham are so out of touch they donโ€™t realise that Blair won three elections because he understood Labour had to radically change to win. And he changed it enough for people of all political colours to vote for him. But still Starmer says: โ€œI donโ€™t agree with Tony that the policy choices of this government werenโ€™t right.โ€

Seriously? The economyโ€™s in the toilet, unemployment is rocketing, we have millions languishing on benefits, businesses are crashing and burning thanks to his sky-high taxes and he doesnโ€™t think his policies are to blame? The manโ€™s so out-of-touch it’s terrifying.

Iโ€™m not saying Blair is the holy grail. His third term in office and the Iraq war is why I stopped voting Labour but everything he said this week is true. And he has a ton more political experience and nous than these two stooges will ever have.

When he won those three elections it was people from all classes and parties who voted for him because they saw he was a leader who had a plan, who championed aspiration and ambition. They saw that, unlike previous Labour governments, he wouldnโ€™t be dictated to by the unions or by hard-left labour activists.

Blair made Labour electable again and thatโ€™s why Starmer and Burnham hate and fear him in equal measure. Because now thanks to Starmerโ€™s embarrassing incompetence (and Burnhamโ€™s to come) Labour will be unelectable for decades!
