Nigel Farage demands ‘the truth’ following Belfast horror stabbing | Politics | News

Nigel Farage has warned the โ€œpublic are entitled to the truthโ€ following a โ€œhorrificโ€ knife attack in Belfast. The Reform UK leader said “the authorities must reveal the identity and status of the attacker immediately”. Horrific social media footage showed a man sitting on top of another, stabbing him repeatedly in the head and neck area before appearing to try and behead him.

The victim, a man in his 40s, remains in hospital in serious condition. Mr Farage said: “What happened in Belfast last night is horrific. The authorities must reveal the identity and status of the attacker immediately. The public are entitled to the truth.” Reform’s economic spokesman Robert Jenrick said: “Weโ€™ve woken up to truly barbaric footage on a street in Belfast. Of a kind youโ€™d think youโ€™d never see in this country.”

Mr Jenirck said: “For years now Iโ€™ve urged the police to spell out the basic, sober facts, as they have them, when there are horrors like this.”

Conservative Alex Burghart, Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, said: “Last night there was an appalling and brutal attack in North Belfast โ€“ which was met by extraordinary bravery by some local people.

โ€œThe police have made an arrest and it is vital that they are able to do their job.

โ€œResidents should be told the facts of the case as soon as possible.โ€

Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), Gavin Robinson, said anyone who has seen video “will be unable to unsee it” and it was “barbaric”.

Robinson said “this issue has a different sense to it and there are concerns about the consequences of this incident”, and said it is “essential police speak clearly on the incident”.

Hero bystanders were seen attempting to intervene and wrestle the suspected attacker to the ground.
