World Cup Today: Live news updates and analysis after a day of draws
Welcome back to The Athletic‘s live coverage of the 2026 World Cup and it’s another big day of games.
We start in New Jersey as France, many pundits’ favorites to lift the trophy, kicks off its campaign against Senegal in Group I at 3 p.m. ET, 12 p.m. PT and 8 p.m. BST in the UK.
Then it’s on to Boston for the other match in France’s group as Norway, Erling Haaland et al, takes on Iraq at 6 p.m ET, 3 p.m. PT, 11 p.m. BST in the UK.
Then, if you’re a UK viewer feeling adventurous, there are two matches in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Group J.
The first, at 2 a.m. BST, is Argentina‘s opening match against Algeria in Kansas City. That has a more sociable start time of 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT.
And the action for the day ends with Austria versus Jordan in San Francisco, starting at midnight ET, 9 p.m. PT, local time at the stadium, and 5 a.m. in the UK for the early risers.
