Yvette Cooper has told Sir Keir Starmer he must stand down, the Express understands. The foreign secretary delivered the message to the Prime Ministerover the weekend.

Sir Keir is currently away from Downing Street, staying at the prime minister’s countryside residence, Chequers, with his wife and children.

Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle told Sky News he had not spoken to the PM since Friday – but at that time, he said they had a “frank conversation” about the challenges the PM is facing.
