Uruguay vs Cape Verde live updates: Canobbio, Araujo score after Pina free-kick goal in World Cup 2026 game
45′ Uruguay 1-1 Cape Verde
It’s a really frustrating concession for Cape Verde.
They win the ball back and could have played their way up the pitch, as they have done so successfully for much of this match, but with winger Arcanjo down and stricken with cramp, Cape Verde try to lob goalkeeper Fernando Muslera from 60 yards out rather than put the ball out.
Muslera collects, play continues, Uruguay’s player is helping Arcanjo with cramp but leaves him to join the attack.
A deep cross into the box towards Rodrigo Bentancur, Sidny Lopes Cabral can only nod it against his own post and goalkeeper Vozinha dives to his left to try to keep it out.
The ball hits the inside of the post, Vozinha in no man’s land, and bounces fortuitously to Maxi Araujo, who has the instinct to follow it in and dive onto the loose ball to guide it in with his head.
Couldn’t miss. VAR checks it but confirms the goal.
