Politics LIVE: Labour civil war erupts over ‘Andy Burnham’s Chancellor pick’ | Politics | News

The next prime minister needs to spend their first 100 days in office โ€œproving theyโ€™re on the side of working peopleโ€, the head of the TUC has said.

TUC general-secretary Paul Novak told Sky News he thought Sir Keir Starmer could be โ€œproud of the work that his Government didโ€ including passing the Employment Rights Act, investing in the NHS and ending the two-child benefit cap.

But he added: โ€œThe reality is all too often that good work was overshadowed by self-inflicted mistakes, and I think for far too many people they just feel the change โ€“ the one word that was on the front of the manifesto โ€“ in July 2024 hasnโ€™t been delivered.

โ€œSo we want the new prime minister to spend the first 100 days delivering policies with every single policy, every single speech proving theyโ€™re on the side of working people, their families, communities.

โ€œThatโ€™s action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and to rebuild our economy, which isnโ€™t working for far too many people.โ€
