Integration has too often been treated as optional with awful results | Politics | News

Tolerance, that great British trait, has reached its limit. The understandable revulsion we all feel towards two recent acts of horror have been made worse, if that were possible, by the response of officials.
When a black American was killed the establishment raced to the floor. Almost every knee in Westminster attacked the nearest carpet to show solidarity. UK police, celebrities and football players followed suit. Yet, amid the politicisation of the act, be it from Black Lives Matter or Starmer and Rayner, some positives came from it.
England players found a symbol to highlight that they, as a team, were not prepared for colleagues to be labelled as monkeys for daring to miss a penalty. I visited schools where most if not all pupils were white. Seeing heroes on one knee prompted questions, insight, debates and a better understanding of what it must be like to be abused for having dark skin.
An environment was created where millions of white people had a better understanding of life for people who shared the same streets as them, but were born with darker skin. So, the logic went, if the state was willing to do so much to show its tolerance, it would surely extend that to its own people? It didn’t.
Instead of tolerance for all, it fostered a political environment which allowed some to use their minority status as a get out of jail card. This point cannot be highlighted strongly enough. In 2026, a police team handcuffed a man bleeding to death because his murderer said he was racist. The police cared more about an accusation of racism than murder.
This is not organic. The officers were trained to think this; they were instructed to think this. This is what politicians have told the police to do. It is a decision at odds with the vast majority of Britons, who the police are designed to protect. We could rewrite the above and focus on rape. The establishment did not act quickly enough against organised rape gangs because they were an ethnic minority. The same for honour killings. The same for intermarriage. The same for knife crime.
The country does not want an influx of men who believe it is acceptable to wield knives. The same goes for attempted beheadings. Britons believe, much to the annoyance of DEI professionals, that stabbing someone to death is slightly worse than being accused of racism. And, fundamentally, Britons believe that we welcome people on the basis they act in accordance to British customs, laws and beliefs.

My native homeland was war torn. Violence was commonplace and rule of law non-existent. Yet I and millions of brown and black people came to this island and understood how lucky we were, how much we owed to our new homes and worked to become valuable; good neighbours, good employees, good friends.
Too many recent arrivals have not integrated into British society. Integration has too often been treated as optional. Successive governments have failed to make integration an expectation of settlement and herein lays the disconnect between politicians and the public. Nobody took the knee.
Labour and Conservative refuse to acknowledge that many have come and refused to integrate. And it is this, just as much as the evil acts, that have ended our relationship with tolerance. Enough is enough.

This nation must end the Indefinite Leave to Remain. Migrants must speak English. Benefits cannot be given to migrants. Those who do not integrate must be made to leave. These three simple acts would begin to show the public that officials understand. Nobody has a God-given right to be here. Living here means you must speak English, thereby integrating yourself with neighbours. And benefits are designed for British nationals, not for migrants or their families.
This is all doable, if the will is there. It is there from the public. My fear is the same as yours, the established parties and the blob fundamentally want more migration. They want police to take accusations of racism as seriously as murder. That we, as a tolerant nation, should yield to foreign customs.
We shall not. These three acts, all Reform policies, will ensure Britons see the government as a reflection of their wishes. It is only when people and government are aligned that tolerance can once again flourish.
