Politics LIVE: Andy Burnham set to launch ‘ยฃ38bn’ tax raid | Politics | News

Andy Burnham is set to launch a ยฃ38billion tax raid to fund a spending spree, according to Reform UK analysis. The prime minister-in-waiting’s pledges would mean Labour’s total level of tax increases would jump from about ยฃ66billion a year to more than ยฃ100billion a year, the report found.

This includes reforming the rates of capital gains tax and imposing National Insurance on rental income.

Reform’s Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick told The Telegraph: โ€œAndy Burnham has spent 20 years reaching for other peopleโ€™s money โ€“ a death tax on family homes, a graduate tax on young people getting their first pay cheque, a ยฃ14billion raid on savings and investment, and new levies on everything from your parking space at work to your weekend away.

โ€œTaken together with Rachel Reevesโ€™s record, Labour could well raise more than ยฃ100billion a year of tax rises. If Mr Burnham disputes this, the remedy is simple: rule these 10 taxes out, by name, today.โ€

It comes as little is known about Mr Burnham’s policies as he gets set to enter 10 Downing Street within weeks.
