Andy Burnham insisted the UK is continuing to โ€œsupport Ukraine 100%โ€ after a threat from Vladimir Putin. Moscow warned of “consequences” over the reported use of British drones by Kyiv for strikes deep into Russia, as the brutal conflict continues.

During a visit to Wolverhampton bus station today, the Prime Minister was asked for his response to the Russian President. Mr Burnham said: โ€œThis is the UK doing what it has long said it would do, which is to support Ukraine 100% against this illegal war led by Vladimir Putin.

โ€œWe are providing support so that Ukraine can defend itself, and thatโ€™s been the British position all the way through this conflict by previous prime ministers. It remains the case with me.

โ€œWe are not fair-weather friends. We will be there in Ukraineโ€™s hour of need, and that wonโ€™t change.โ€

Ukraine used drones made by two British companies as part of a so-called deep strike campaign, the Sunday Times reported.

Russiaโ€™s embassy to the UK said the reports โ€œconfirm that London is deliberately opting for an escalation of the Ukraine crisisโ€ and accused Britain of โ€œseeking to contain Russia and inflict maximum damage on it by proxyโ€.

It added: โ€œLondonโ€™s actions will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer.

โ€œThe deeper its involvement in the conflict and the greater its support for Kyivโ€™s terrorist machinery, the higher the price it will pay.โ€

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: โ€œBritain stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and we are committed to providing the equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself against Putinโ€™s illegal invasion.

โ€œRussia should be in no doubt about the resolve of this Government to stand against Russian aggression, in Ukraine and against the UK and our allies.โ€
