Here’s two announcements that shouldn’t surprise us in the slightest: the PM has ruled out a snap election but is leaving the door open to tax hikes. Of course he is. It’s in the mindset. The longer this dishonest, spiteful, hypocritical band of class warriors are in power, the more it is obvious that what motivates them is envy and they are going to crash the economy as a result.

Benefits spending is totally out of control, they are penalising anyone who has made any success in life, it is becoming ever more expensive actually to hire anyone, net zero will bankrupt us whereas we could be saved if they would only drill, baby, drill: this crowd would look like rank amateurs in a student union, never mind in government. How much more can we take?

As for holding a snap election, forget it. Andy Burnham tried twice to be elected as leader of the Labour Party before sneaking in through the back door: there is absolutely no way he is going to risk losing the prize now it’s in his clammy grasp.

People say that if Gordon Brown had held an election in the early, happier days (actually, recollections may vary here – I can’t remember much of a honeymoon period) he would have had a proper mandate; he might also have lost.

Theresa May, when she called her own poll, looked as if she’d be back with a massive majority; instead she nearly delivered us into the hands of a hard left nutcase who likes to hang out with terrorists.

There are some people who bemoan the fact that we rarely get a Labour government: since it was formed in 1900, 126 years ago, the party has only been in power for 35 years. There’s a very good reason for that, as we are finding out right now.

Personally I cannot understand why anyone at all would vote for this shower, although it is totally the fault of the Conservatives that we landed here in the first place: if they hadn’t made such a pig’s ear of government, Labour may not have won and if it did, not on such a scale.

It’s the same old story every time the lefties take power: they tax far too much, spend far too much and it ends with a run on the pound. And then the Tories step in to clear up the mess. Mark my words, that’s what’s going to happen at some point; both Reform and the Green Party are not the force they were. It’s just a question of waiting. But it’s going to be a long wait.
