A terminally ill mum has urged MPs to “just pass the bill” ahead of a knife-edge vote on assisted dying. Hannah Slater, 38, has incurable cancer which has spread to her brain. Every day with her son Theo, three, is “a gift” but she lives in fear of a time when he may have to be stopped from seeing her if she is suffering at the end of life.

The House of Commons is due to vote this afternoon on whether the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will continue towards becoming law. Sharing an 11th-hour message for MPs, Hannah said: “Cancer has taken so much from me. It’s taken my career, my body, my chance to see my son grow up.

“This is just something that would give me a little bit of independence, agency, control and dignity back. We’ve had years of debate, you’ve talked and talked so much and the safeguards are there. Just pass the bill for people like me.”
