Nigel Farage erupted at Kemi Badenoch in a furious spat on X over Piddington. The Tory leader shared a post after she visited the Oxfordshire village, which has voted to leave the UK over plans for an asylum camp, saying it was “not an immigration issue, it’s a women’s issue”.

She added: “Everyone should feel safe in their home. But the women I spoke to in Piddington are terrified, and the Government isn’t listening. Enough is enough. We need to leave the ECHR, deport all illegal arrivals and protect communities like Piddington.”

But the Reform UK leader hit back: “This is, in fact, an immigration issue. Everything else is downstream from that. You lot always want to avoid talking about immigration because of your abysmal record. But avoiding it only causes more anger. Call it what it is, Kemi.”

Mrs Badenoch then said she had made a typo in her first post, writing: “Ah. I see the problem here. The first line should have said ‘Piddington is not JUST an immigration issue’.

“Stop getting your knickers in a twist over a typo. If it’s not an immigration issue, why am I talking about the ECHR and illegal arrivals in the same tweet?

“If you’d actually been to Piddington, you’d know that putting 1,300 men in a camp next to a village of 130 women IS also a women’s safety issue.”

Mr Farage replied: “If it was a typo, why was this on your Facebook page?

“I know you have a track record of struggling with the truth, but perhaps just for once, admit you were wrong.”

Mrs Badenoch met more than 40 women from the village earlier this week, who raised concerns about plans to accommodate 1,256 males at the former Ministry of Defence site in Bicester near Piddington.

In a symbolic referendum, held as part of a protest against the proposals, the village’s residents voted to leave the United Kingdom by 285 votes to 26, a majority of 259.
