Really, really good work there from Max Verstappen. Another sign that Red Bull is cooking at the moment — well, Verstappen is at least.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in P2 and P3 is good news for the sprint race start and that tight Turn 1 could be very interesting, especially off the back of what happened in Singapore a couple of weeks ago.

The short sprint format gives the chance for Verstappen to hold on against the McLarens, which should have an advantage on a tire-hungry circuit in hot weather.

Doing that over the longer distance on Sunday might be another matter, but as Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase said on the radio, that’s part one complete.
