Finally some signs of life from Germany in attack late in that half with a tidy passing combination right on the edge of the Ivory Coast box.

Nagelsmann packs his team full of midfielders — Florian Wirtz is a No 10 playing off the left and Joshua Kimmich moonlights at right back — for this very reason, to have technicians in the opposition half and create central overloads.

Unfortunately for Germany the quick passing exchange only ended up in a poked shot by Wirtz that was easy for Yahia Fofana to collect.

Germany have given as good as they have gotten in the opening 45 minutes, and the game looks better set up now for Ivory Coast to sit in and hit the wide spaces. A big half-time talk for Nagelsmann who surely will look to his bench soon.
