Lee Anderson called ‘scumbag’ at after ‘messed up brains’ jibe | Politics | News
Reform MP Lee Anderson was heckled by a passerby as he attended an election stunt at a petrol station in Nuneaton. Mr Anderson was approached by an unnamed woman who left her vehicle and said: “You could not tell the truth if your life depended on it.”
The altercation took place in the middle of a party event which saw the veteran Reform MP team up with the party’s treasury spokesman, former Conservative MP Robert Jenrick, to “cut” fuel prices by 13p a litre. Reform have done similar events previously, where they sell cut-price petrol to draw attention to the party’s pledge to halve VAT on fuel to help tackle the cost of living.
But not everyone was impressed, with the heckler confronting Mr Anderson and saying: “Get your silly little racist flags, and stick them where the sun doesn’t shine.” Appearing unfazed, the Ashfield MP told her: “It’s very nice to meet you” and said he hoped she had a “lovely day”.
The agitated heckler revealed to Mr Anderson that she used to be a teacher in his Ashfield constituency. Mr Anderson retorted that “it’s no wonder our kids’ brains are messed up”.
She blasted back that he was a “scumbag”.
Reform have been holding a series of events across the country to draw attention to their pledge to slash VAT on petrol, which Nigel Farage’s party has called on the Chancellor to do for three months as an emergency response to the Iran war.
The party argues that cutting VAT on fuel from 20% to 10% would immediately reduce prices at the pump and help families struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Mr Jenrick was also heckled by Green Party activists when he encouraged the Chancellor to implement the policy during the stunt.
The events have proved divisive, with some motorists welcoming the cheaper fuel while others took the chance to heckle attending MPs. It is the latest in a slew of Reform party events and comes after fuel prices fluctuated because of the Iran war.
Pump prices have stopped rising after 43 days of increases which saw petrol go up 25.5p to 158.3p and diesel 49p to 191.54p.
Mr Anderson is no stranger to confrontations in public, having previously told the infamous Westminster protester “Stop Brexit Steve” to “get a job”. The Ashfield MP has built a reputation for robust exchanges with critics and protesters throughout his political career.
