Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, will officially launch his campaign for the Makerfield by-election today.

Mr Burnham was officially confirmed as the candidate for the seat earlier this week, with the ballot having been triggered by the standing down of Josh Simons.

Mr Simons stepped aside to give the Mayor a route to parliament, where he is expected to challenge Sir Keir Starmer for the post of Prime Minister.
