Prime Minister Andy Burnham will today be told to ease the tax burden on British businesses as he prepares for the October Budget.

The urgent plea comes just days after inflation spiked and Mr Burnham warned of a “challenging” set of announcements next month.

Fears have grown that Labour will slam up taxes again, after Downing Street refused to cut welfare spending.

Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith, who will hold a press conference this morning, told the Daily Express that Labour were “squeezing small businesses dry”.

He added: “They are taxing them too much and crushing them with a complex tax system that is working against them.”
