The reason speculation is rife about a General Election is because Labour has run out of money and their current tax grabbing attempts are stalling. Their plans to jack up Capital Gains Tax won’t work because as all sensible economists know it will raise less tax revenue, not more.

Their mansion tax raid, which may take in houses worth over £1.5million, will double the number of households having to pay it – to 271,000 – but, as Labour sympathising tax expert Dan Neidle explains, it’ll become too costly to administer, and as it only looks at the value of the property, not the equity, it’s grossly unfair as well.

Burnham won’t cut benefits so their big idea is a General Election so they can push up income tax.

I did warn you…

You heard it here first. Four weeks ago in my column, “A mansion tax is an assault on freedom”, I predicted this tax would start as a tax on £2million houses but it would soon become a £1million mansion tax then a £500,000 one.

How predictable this grasping government is. With the ink barely set on the policy, it is already reported the £2million threshold could be dropped to £1.5million, so Labour can tax yet more hard working people. Mark my words, it won’t be long before the ‘mansion tax’ becomes the ‘semi-detached tax’.

Well, would you Adam and Eve it? Two of the leaders of the Green Party are landlords despite their party calling for the “effective abolition of private landlordism and the private rented sector”.

First, Mothin Ali – the joint deputy leader of the Green Party – was uncovered as a landlord, and sole director of a private real estate company called MA Holdings Ltd. Next Rachel Millward, who he shares the deputy leadership with, was discovered to be a landlord, renting out rooms in her six-bedroom family home with a swimming pool in East Sussex.

Don’t you just love “do as I say, not as I do” socialists?

It was more woolly nutters than woolly knitters, when extremists stormed the stage at the H&M London Fashion show last week crashing the catwalk to protest at the use of wool. Gone are the days when Peta protested against the use of fur. Wool is their new target with placards declaring it’s ‘Bloody cruel. Now stop it.’

What would these headbangers sooner we use? More synthetic fibres the very things their environmentalist cousins warn are damaging the planet. It’s time these environmentalists and animal rights extremists started protesting at each other’s events and left the rest of us alone to get on with our lives.

I can’t see anyone winning from this unseemly spat between the King and Earl Spencer. The Earl might make some money, but what else is he hoping to achieve from washing this dirty linen in public?

His sister’s eldest son will soon be King, so why would he want to seek to harm the Royal Family in this self-indulgent way? If Charles Spencer wanted to do something useful for Diana, he’d be trying to mend the relationship between William and Harry rather than writing this poison.
