Assisted Dying UPDATES: Sir Chris Whitty prepares to give evidence | Politics | News

MPs scrutinising legislation on the proposed Assisted Dying Bill are set to hear evidence from Englandโ€™s chief medical officer, Sir Chris Whitty, today.

Whitty is one of 50 experts set to answer questions from the 23 MPs tasked with examining the proposed bill, which passed its second reading in Parliament in November last year.

The bill would see terminally ill adults with less than six months to live given the ability to choose to end their own life.

Among the experts also set to appear are Duncan Burton, the chief nursing officer for England, and representatives from the doctorsโ€™ union, the British Medical Association (BMA) and regulator, the General Medical Council (GMC).
