Sometimes, it is only in a player’s absence that you realise their impact. That was certainly the case in OL Lyonnes’ first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Arsenal when Dumornay missed out through injury.

But come the second leg, she was a thorn in Arsenal’s side all day long. The Haiti international threaded line-breaking balls, muscled her way between defenders to win her team’s early penalty, and curled a sumptuous ball to Jule Brand for the eventual winner.

That is just a snapshot of Dumornay’s overall gameplay. On the surface level, the 22-year-old has shown her prowess, especially her ruthless finishing, her short backlift like a hot knife cutting through butter, but her game has evolved beyond that.

The attacking midfielder makes the players around her play better. She defends transitions, relieves pressure, holds up the ball and combines with team-mates, runs in behind and bears down on defenders. A game-changer.
