Cash answers demanded about Lord Mandelson’s Epstein exit | Politics | News
Answersย about cash paid to sacked British ambassador to the US Lord Mandelson are being demanded from the Government. Lord Mandelson was fired over his links to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in September but the Government is under pressure to disclose what payments have been made.
Shadow minister for women Mims Davies and Shadow Home Office minister Alicia Kearns have written to Head of the Civil Service Sir Chris Wormald asking for โurgent clarityโ on a series of questions.
They want to know whether taxpayersโ money was used for a severance payment, and if so how much. They also want to know when details of Lord Mandelsonโs contract will be published, if a non-disclosure agreement has been signed, and when his salary formally ceased.
They state: โOver two months have now passed since [Lord Mandelson] was sacked from his post as the appointed British Ambassador to the United States, following the shocking revelation of his close association with, and sympathies for, the late convicted and disgraced sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. Understandably, the public is rightly incensed at these further appalling revelations and now demand further details.โ
Ms Davies told the Sunday Express: โThe public deserves full transparency around this case. Given the seriousness of the circumstances surrounding Lord Mandelsonโs dismissal, it is vital that the Government provides clear answers without delay.โ
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: โAs per our policy we do not comment on HR matters, even after the facts. The annual accounts will be published in the usual way.โ
