Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris went down with a non-contact injury against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at SoFi Stadium. The injury occurred on second-and-4 with a little more than five minutes remaining in the first half.
Harris took one step forward as quarterback Justin Herbert opened up for a play-action fake. Harris immediately went down, requiring Herbert to jump over him to stay on his feet and complete the pass.
Harris was unable to put any weight on his left leg. The training cart immediately came out for Harris, taking him straight to the locker room. The Chargers said Harris was questionable to return with an ankle injury.
Harris, 27, signed with the Chargers this past offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million. The 2021 first-round pick spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
One month after signing Harris in free agency, the Chargers took Omarion Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting him at No. 22.
Hampton will be expected to take on a heavier load in Harrisโ absence.
