This would put him only 1.6 pounds (0.11 stone) from being classified as being “obese”. According to the NHS’ BMI calculator, Mr Trump’s is 29.7 – which is classed as “overweight”. It states: “An overweight result suggests you could benefit from making some healthy changes. If you want to lose some weight, working towards a healthier weight range could reduce the risk of long-term conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.” As regards next steps, the NHS suggests: “BMI is just one way to measure health.

“It cannot tell you if you’re carrying too much fat, or if you’ve got lots of muscle.

“Check your waist to height ratio to find out if you’re carrying too much fat around your tummy.”

The Washington Post reports that White House doctors have urged the President to lose weight by improving his diet and doing sustained physical activity.

โ€œWe know that obesity is a strong risk factor for numerous health isdsues โ€” as well as premature disability and death,โ€ said Scott Kahan, the director for the National Center for Weight and Wellness, and a George Washington University physician, according to the newspaper.

โ€œAddressing obesity to protect the presidentโ€™s health should be a priority similar to ensuring Secret Service protections for his life.โ€

โ€œBMI is a great screening tool, but itโ€™s not everything,โ€ said Gitanjali Srivastava, an obesity specialist.

She added that weight could be a secondary issue compared to other markers of health.

Srivastava said: โ€œAt that age, itโ€™s less about a number, but more about, what is the percent body fat?

“What are we trying to improve including overall health, function, body fat?โ€

Trump’s physician, Captain Sean Barbabella, said in May: “President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function.

“His demanding daily schedule, including multiple high-level meetings, public engagements, and regular physical activity, continues to support his overall well-being.

“Cognitive and physical performance are excellent. He is fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
