Now we know. There is no low to which he will not stoop to try and shore up his crumbling support. With the mid-terms just days away, in which the riven Republican party he purports to lead is almost universally predicted to fare abysmally, President Trump will resort to anything, and I do mean anything, to try to keep his term in office meaningful. It will fall to historians to chronicle just how a president who was elected so decisively has slumped to an all-time low less than halfway through his term, but hereโ€™s what Donald Trump did achieve in that election in 2024. He was only the second Republican in the last 30 years to win the popular vote as well as being only the second President ever to win a non-consecutive term.

The 31 states with the 312 electoral votes he picked up was the best Republican performance since George H Bush in 1988. He also managed to attract black and Latino voters in unprecedented numbers. All of which now seems a long, long time ago as his support continues to haemorrhage in direct contrast to how oil cannot flow through the Strait of Hormuz. By Bonfire Night the Republicansโ€™ dreams of clinging to power in the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, will most likely have gone up in smoke.

Which leaves Trump cornered and angry; and as everyone knows, anger often clouds judgement. Add to the fire of crumbling support the fact he seems surrounded by precious few grown-ups and instead fawning sycophants, suddenly the futureโ€™s not bright for a man who often appears orange.

Hence his actions over recent days, starting with staying resolutely silent about the possibility of the televising of a federal execution by an army firing squad, an act of such naked barbarism it shreds any sense of dignity for a nation that purports to be world leading. It took more than a week for him to put an end to the hideous stunt.

Then he revealed he was buying oil from Vladimir Putin, this DESPITE signing a global treaty just two months ago calling for tariffs to be applied to any country that purchased Russian oil. The US $400 million that will pour into Putinโ€™s war chest is estimated to provide little more than one weekโ€™s worth of fuel for America, but doubtless no one had the nerve to point that out to Trump. But this is akin to Presidents Roosevelt or Truman doing a deal with Adolf Hitler during World War 2.

And just when it seemed impossible he could become even more grossly offensive, he chose to post video footage of that poor man being mauled to death by a tiger in a Doncaster wildlife park and followed it up with AI generated footage of him playfully wrestling with a tiger with music underneath!

When I reported from an election rally in Pennsylvania two years ago, President Trump played out (and attempted to dance to) โ€œone of my favourite songs,โ€ God Bless the USA.

The lyrics include โ€œIโ€™m proud to be an American/Where at least I know Iโ€™m free/And I wonโ€™t forget the men who died/Who gave that right to me.โ€

Presumably, heโ€™s conveniently forgetting the 650,000 estimated to have died on both sides in the Ukraine conflict, as well as one deluded individual in a Yorkshire wildlife park and possibly a US Army Major in a barracks in Texas?

Any ideas?

Wonder how those Just Stop Oil protesters are feeling now?

Empty boast

Three weeks ago, the government boasted about the RAFโ€™s ยฃ7 billion first ever space defence programme with announcement of the No. III Space Effects Squadron.

Last week the Royal Navyโ€™s sole icebreaker had to be towed back to port within hours of leaving Devonport in Plymouth.

Any chance we can make the kit we need here on earth function before we play at being Buzz Lightyear?

Who knew?

Who knew more than 9 million of us would be totally hooked on a TV show blighted with โ€œracial bias?โ€

Because, if one of the stars already banished from the castle is to be believed, Celebrity Traitors falls into that disturbing category.

The star of the Industry TV show Myhaโ€™la Herrold was the second competitor to be voted out by her celebrity chums and now, in part, puts her demise down to โ€œunconscious racial and cultural bias.โ€

All of which is utter drivel. Her fate was sealed when she was spotted winking conspiratorially at brilliant but equally hopeless arch-traitor Richard E Grant. Nothing more, nothing less.

Utterly chilling

The warning could have hardly been more chilling. In his annual public address concerning the nationโ€™s safety, MI5 boss Sir Ken McCallum said: โ€œNine eleven changed the world and we are there again. We have entered a new era of national security.โ€

He went on to list the risks from sabotage, arson, social media, AI, coercion and proxies as well as the clear and present threats posed by Russia and Iran.

All of which indicates itโ€™s a good idea to have an idea of the backgrounds of just who is entering our country illegally by dinghy. And why.

Fair play

If 86-YEAR-OLD Sir Paul McCartney really can remember the moment he was born, including the โ€œclangingโ€ of forceps, full credit to him. Sometimes I struggle to remember where I put the car keys.

Brace yourselves

If the mother of Henry Nowakโ€™s killer (Kiran Kaur who was sentenced to three years in jail after moving the knife used by her evil son Vickrum Digwa) is freed after serving just a third of her term, that will be the most grotesque result of Labourโ€™s disastrous early release scheme.
