Euro 2025 live: Finland beat 10-player Iceland in opening game before hosts Norway face Switzerland

FULL TIME! Iceland 0-1 Finland

The contrasting emotions at full-time. Both Finland and Iceland knew this game was going to crucial with very little to separate themselves and Switzerland in Group A, and Norway probably the slight favourites.

It is Finland, though, who take all three points. Icelandโ€™s next game is against Switzerland while Finland can approach the Norway match with a bit more comfort.

FULL TIME! Iceland 0-1 Finland

Victory for Finland! They survive a late flurry of Iceland chances to record their first win at the Euros since 2009! Katarina Kosola scored the all important goal, which came after Icelandโ€™s Hilder Antonsdottir was sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession. Itโ€™s a blow for Iceland, but a huge result for Finland in Group A.

Iceland 0-1 Finland

90+1 mins: Another chance right at the death for Iceland. Katla Tryggvadรณttir is left with some space in the box and gets her shot away through the legs of the defender, but Koivunen has it covered. Into six minutes of added time.

Iceland 0-1 Finland

84 mins: Itโ€™s been all Finland since the opening goal, with the 10 players of Iceland struggling to get out. That said, Agla Maraa Albertsdรณttir tries her luck after a break downfield, but itโ€™s straight at goalkeeper Anna Koivunen. Time running out for Iceland.

GOOOOAL! Iceland 0-1 Finland

70 mins: We have an opening goal at Euro 2025, and it goes to the 10-player Finland! It had been coming, and Finlandโ€™s No 9 Katarina Kosola takes her chance, cutting in from the left, finding some space in the box and firing at goal. The Iceland goalkeeper Rรบnarsdรณttir got a touch on the shot, and should have done better, but canโ€™t keep it out.

RED CARD! Iceland 0-0 Finland

60 mins: What happened there?!

We were looking at replays for the scramble incident moments earlier, and when we go back to the live pictures, we see Antonsdottir walking off the pitch after being shown red!

Seems like it was two yellow cards in quick succession, with the second coming as she stamped on a Finland ankle late.

CHANCE! Iceland 0-0 Finland

57 mins: Mad scramble inside the Finland box ends with a penalty shout from Iceland!

Itโ€™s a long throw into the area that causes chaos, with keeper Koivunen forced to punch out not once but twice to avoid the ball flying into her own net.

With limbs flying about, thereโ€™s a handball shout as Sigurdardottir strikes goalwards – but instead of her arm, itโ€™s the face that Koivisto blocks with, no doubt sparing her side from conceding the opener!

BACK UNDERWAY! Iceland 0-0 Finland

Weโ€™re off again in Thun.

Big blow for Iceland – Viggosdottir has been replaced at half-time with Heidarsdottir coming on.

We wait to see whether thatโ€™s just a precaution or if Iceland could be without their captain for longer than this second half.

HALF-TIME! Iceland 0-0 Finland

Nothing to separate the sides after the first half of football at Euro 2025 – and Iโ€™m sure weโ€™ll be getting some more entertaining ones as the tournament progresses.

Itโ€™s been mostly cagey but weโ€™ve seen the odd chance at both ends, with Katariina Kosola in particular proving a live wire for the more aggressive Finland from the left.

There was a worry for Iceland fans to take away from the past 45 minutes, however – captain and star player Glodรญs Viggosdottir went down with injury, but has so far managed to battle through.

CLOSE! Iceland 0-0 Finland

14 mins: It might be the Iceland faithful making all the noise with their iconic Viking clap, but itโ€™s Finland threatening the most.

Malmoโ€™s Kosola cuts in on the left and fires from range but it goes just over, landing on the roof of the net.
