Fans spot subtle ‘show of diplomacy’ as Kate greets Emmanuel Macron | Royal | News
Tuesday (8th July) marked the first day of the French state visit, where president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Bridgette Macron arrived at RAF Northolt for their three day state visit.
This is the first state visit by a French president since 2008, and the first by a European Union leader since Brexit.
Several issues are expected to be discussed between Macron and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during the visit, including how to stop small boats crossing the Channel.
As the doors of the plane opened at the Royal Airforce this morning, President Macron and Brigitte stepped out of their plane and were soon greeted by the ambassador of the French Republic, Helene Duchene.
The presidential couple were then greeted by Prince William and Princess Kate, who both were waiting beside the plane to greet them on behalf of the King.
President Macron warmly shook the Prince William’s hand and held onto his arm as they chatted. He then turned to Princess Kate as he took her hand and gave it an airkiss.
As photos of the meeting soon flooded onto social media, some royal fans and commentators were quick to share their thoughts on the visit.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams wrote: “The Prince and Princess of Wales meet French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at RAF Northolt as the state visit begins. The RF play a pivotal role in soft power diplomacy.”
Some royal fans were also quick to spot Princess Kate’s subtle sign of diplomacy that were hiding within her prink ensemble.
The Princess of Wales wore a pink outfit from French fashion house Christian Dior, along with a matching hat by Jess Collett. The Christian Dior jacket is the 30 Montaigne Rose Des Vents Bar Jacket from the 2024 collection.
The jacket was reimagined by Maria Grazia Chiuri, who was inspired by the original first created in 1947 by iconic designer, Christian Dior.
The subtle signs in Kateโs outfit didnโt end there, as her accessories also made a touching nod to some late royals, as she wore earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, as well as a pearl necklace from the late Queen Elizabethโs collection.
In response to this revelation, fans were quick to praise Kate for her unique and subtle details about her outfit.
“Arenโt they sublime?” one person wrote, while another person simply wrote “wow”.
“Dignified and fitting ambassadors for the monarchy,” someone else added.
After meeting with the Prince and Princess of Wales, President Macron and Bridgette were then lead to meet with the King and Queen Camilla, who later will host them in Windsor ahead of a landmark speech.
A state banquet with then be taking place later on Tuesday evening. The French president and his wife are also set to visit the tomb of the late Queen during their stay in Windsor.
