GB News guest skewers Labour after postponing mayoral elections – ‘Unbelieveable’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
A GB News guest has criticised the Labour Government after it announced the decision to postpone mayoral elections. Reform UK Councillor Jaymey McIvor reacted to the news and hit out at Keir Starmer’s “unbelievable” move. The elections were originally scheduled to take place in May 2026. However, it was reported last night that these elections are now being postponed until 2028. McIvor furiously declared it is a “fundamental right” of Britons to vote and expressed his anger at the delay. He told the host, Patrick Christys: “My immediate reaction is I think it’s unbelievable. Yesterday, Reform UK announced their Essex mayoral candidate, and the following day, they are going to cancel them.”
He added: “Whatever you try and do, you cannot stop the British people from wanting change. They want change, they want Labour gone, they will never trust the Conservative Party again.
“These are people’s democratic rights; these are not optional elections. People have the right to vote, and the Government should remember that.”
McIvor continued: “People died for this country so we would have freedoms and the democracy we enjoy today – it is a fundamental right, not an option.
“This Government needs to wake up to that. People’s rights are not optional; they are fundamental.”
Christys then had his say on the decision, arguing that if this happened under a Reform Government, the reaction would be different.
He claimed: “I can’t help but wonder, if we were living under a Nigel Farage Government and the elections were being postponed at this rate, this is not the only set of elections that have been postponed under Labour.
“How long would it be before the accusations from the Labour Party benches of us living in a dictatorship would come flooding out? I don’t think it will be that long, would it?”
McIvor added: “This is a Prime Minister that’s clinging onto power. I think he’s months away from being disposed of by his own party, most likely, and he probably won’t be a member of the Labour Party if he carries on, because there is such disdain for him.”
