GMB fans ‘disgusted’ as they blast Labour over grooming gang update | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

ITV fans who tuned in to watch Good Morning Britain expressed that they felt “disgusted” after the latest update on the grooming gang inquiry. Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Madeley spoke to Maggie Oliver, a whistleblower and former detective, who said: “This is the latest in the long line of cover-ups.” It comes after the grooming gang inquiry is facing huge disruption after more survivors have walked out of the survivor panel, arguing that they don’t want to take part in what they believe is a cover-up. The shambles will be a major blow for Sir Keir Starmer, who was forced to set up the review this year.
Maggie also updated the hosts, saying that the “selection of the survivor panel is questionable”. She also said that the Government wouldn’t want her anywhere near the panel, with survivor Jade, saying that she was never approached. One person on X replied: “This is absolutely sickening.” Another echoed: “Absolutely disgusting. They should be listening to these survivors typical of this government.” A third claimed: “The Labour government is scared of upsetting their core voters in the North.”
The Home Secretary said that the focus of the national grooming gangs inquiry “will not change” or be “watered down”.
Writing in the Times, Shabana Mahmood said that the Government “must get this right”, adding that the wait for the appointment of the inquiry’s chairperson will “not be much longer”.
In a huge development, three abuse survivors quit their roles in the inquiry this week. In her resignation letter, survivor “Elizabeth” – which is not her real name – said the process felt like “a cover-up”. They added that the inquiry had “created a toxic environment for survivors”.
