Green Party just got hijacked by hardcore activists – future is dark | Politics | News
Nutty – but nice. That used to be my view of the Green Party, and I’d guess one probably shared by many of you reading this now. Regrettably, we are now forced to review that harmless definition as the Greens have opted to pursue a dark and sinister policy that puts at risk the wellbeing of a specific group in our society. At their conference in Brighton – where a “safe room” had to be arranged for Jewish Greens and two members had their passes revoked – they passed a motion stating that “Zionism is a form of racism” and rejected a clause that would have prevented the motion being used to “pressure, proscribe or discipline” any party member perceived to be sympathetic to Zionist groups.
It’s rare it seems necessary to quote any definition from a dictionary, but this is one such occasion so to save you reaching for yours, this comes from the Oxford Dictionary: “Zionism refers to the movement among European Jews in the late nineteenth century to create a Jewish homeland.”
That’s it. Nothing about “ethnic cleansing” nor any reference of supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza. Indeed, many argue if you support the idea of “the two-state solution” YOU become a Zionist, as you agree with the creation of Israel.
So just what has happened with these supposedly harmless Greens?
While always viewed as a single-issue party, that issue used to be about protection of the environment moving into tackling climate change and you’d have expected matters such as bottle banks and tree planting programmes to take up their time at conference – not a determination to ostracise their own Jewish members.
Having been hijacked by the pro-Palestinian hard left, many of whom were booted out of the Labour party, they are now in the ludicrous position of a Jewish party member who attends their synagogue possibly facing disciplinary action.
While anyone should be able to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause, the position now adopted by the Greens surely gets close to the line of open hostility towards Jewish people and the timing of the vote, just three days before many Jewish people were forced to remember the atrocities of the murderous Hamas attack on Israel three years on, also supports that belief.
Earlier this year, the party was forced to suspend some local election candidates after blatantly antisemitic statements and social media posts were uncovered.
Former Green party leader Caroline Lucas called the move “divisive” and it’s worth noting four of their MPs opposed it, but the biggest reaction was delivered in the early hours of Friday morning when Green leader Zack Polanski, having handpicked the Holborn and St Pancras constituency, failed to win the seat.
Dark times indeed for the Greens.
Bit rich!
Apologies for possibly spoiling your weekend with this picture, but it’s important to realise this is how elected European politicians view US President Donald Trump.
While I’m up for any rational, intellectual criticism of Trump (and justifiably as there seems to no shortage of grounds!) this is beyond the pale.
Called ‘The Orange Plague,’ it’s 8.5 feet tall, shows Trump naked and perched on the shoulders of a man struggling with the burden and was sited at a busy intersection point in the European parliament in Strasbourg, France.
Seeing as most of Europe gets its defence on the cheap courtesy of the US, this crude attack is more than a little rich!
The real menace…
The French far left look more dangerous than our supposed far right – and their black labs.
How about solving the actual problem?
Amid growing unrest and anti-migrant demonstrations, the government placed the entire port town of Gosport under effective police lockdown for around 12 hours last week threatening residents with arrest if they didn’t return to their homes.
Hurling abuse at RNLI crews and fighting with police and dock staff is reprehensible, BUT the government will not solve the problem and ease understandable concerns by forcing people to stay indoors.
Nuts
The Prime Minister’s new found fondness for Europe, remember he refused to discuss it a couple of months ago while campaigning in Makerfield which voted ‘Leave’ decisively, needs to be monitored after his trip to Berlin. It’s obviously desirable to have a close alliance over security between Europe’s two largest economies, the UK and Germany, but it’s also fair to ponder what it might lead to.
The French finance minister Roland Lescure has urged Britain to “come all the way” and return to the European Union and ahead of the UK-EU summit next month Burnham himself has said he is “very committed to securing deeper cooperation” and to “see if we can bring the UK closer to Europe.”
Cosying back up to Europe at this time is nuts. The Euro is trading at a 17-month low against the US dollar and the continent is riven with tensions. Protests by up to 250,000 people rocked many French cities last week, Italy is saddled with public debt equating to 138% of GDP, a snap general election has been called in Spain as its government cannot pass any policies and Germany is getting closer to the clutches of the far right.
Sound like a club you’d want to re-join?
How will this work?
A successful conference for the Conservatives in Birmingham and a sure-footed speech from Kemi Badenoch that had them (rightly) cheering in the aisles.
But while not wishing to rain on any parade, as they couldn’t build HS2 in 14 years, do they really think they’re capable of establishing this magical “Britannia Shield?”
Don’t hold your breath
In an address to all staff, the new Director General Matt Brittin said he wants the BBC to become “a bit more Elvis, a little less conversation, a little more action.”
Having to endure much of their output (Celebrity Traitors excepted) I’d suggest fools rush in would be more applicable.
