I believe in a woman’s right to choose but this new move risks murder | Politics | News

It is hard to believe that in our supposedly civilised country lawmakers might be about to legalise baby killing. Yes, if passed next week by the Lords this new law will mean that a foetus can be aborted up to full term when, letโ€™s face it, itโ€™s no longer just a foetus itโ€™s a viable baby. And mothers wonโ€™t be prosecuted for it.

It would also increase the risk of babies being aborted on the basis of their sex. The gut-wrenching name for that is foetal femicide and not only could it be coming to a clinic near you โ€“ it might already be there. Because even without this new law, thereโ€™s increasing evidence that in Britain babies are being terminated (killed) because theyโ€™re the wrong sex.

This barbaric practice already happens in countries like China, Pakistan and India but Iโ€™d never have believed it could become a reality here. The woman behind the new law is Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi who wants to decriminalise all abortions and who tabled the amendment to the bill which would allow abortions to be carried out up until birth โ€“ for whatever reason!

What kind of human wants to legalise the killing of viable babies? Because while a womanโ€™s choice is important a babyโ€™s life is a damn sight more so. Iโ€™m 100% pro-abortion โ€“ but not at seven months and sure as hell not anywhere close to nine months. The current legal limit is 24 weeks which we can live with.

But we cannot live with the morally repugnant notion of legalised baby killing. Because thatโ€™s what this would be. Presumably Ms Antoniazzi launched her crusade after the jailing of Carla Foster in 2023 who aborted her baby at 34 weeks (using the โ€˜Pills by Postโ€™ scheme) after she got pregnant by a man who wasnโ€™t her husband. So, she lied about what stage her pregnancy was at to get the pills and ended the life of her unborn baby.

She was originally sentenced to 28 months reduced to 14 on appeal. And she absolutely deserved to go to jail for that. Getting pregnant after an illicit affair is not a reason to end a babyโ€™s life at eight-and-a-half months. Like I said, Iโ€™m pro-abortion. I absolutely believe in a womanโ€™s right to choose. But aborting a baby at 34 weeks โ€“ and beyond โ€“ makes me sick to my stomach. How can we say itโ€™s murder to kill a newborn baby when itโ€™s two-weeks-old.

Yet itโ€™s no crime at all if you kill it two weeks before it comes out of its motherโ€™s womb? More than 1,000 doctors and nurses have signed a letter telling peers of their grave concerns about decriminalising abortion โ€œup to birthโ€. Because apart from their moral objections, theyโ€™re the ones who are going to have to deal with all those dead unborn babies.

Yet the House of Lords has the power to pass this law next Wednesday. And hideously there are women in that chamber who want it to happen. They hide behind the โ€œpro-choiceโ€ argument but donโ€™t seem to realise โ€“ or care โ€“ that โ€œabortion up to full termโ€ involves killing actual babies.

On what humane planet does a womanโ€™s choice come before killing a full-term baby?
