Keir Starmer mocked as Commons admits he doesnโt answer PMQs questions | Politics | News
Keir Starmer has been derided this evening after it was spotted that the House of Commons has seemingly given up claiming he answers questions at PMQs. Throughout last year the Commonsโ official X account was ridiculed on a weekly basis, for repeatedly claiming that on Wednesdays Sir Keir appeared in the chamber and โanswered questions from MPsโ.
This language was repeated in every weekโs social media post from the official House of Commons account to promote the major parliamentary spat between the PM and Kemi Badenoch. However the Express can reveal that even the House of Commons has acknowledged that the Prime Minister rarely answers the questions put to him by MPs. Since the new year, the language of the weekly social media posts has changed.
It now reads: โToday Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer faced questions from MPs in @houseofcommons.โ
When this change was pointed out by the Express, a senior Tory source quipped: โAs his popularity has tanked, Starmer has basically stopped trying to answer even moderately probing questions.
โHe grips his red folder like a life buoy, bleating his pre-scripted lines and never thinking on his feet.
โThereโs no charm, no answers and no substance. Heโs a Prime Minister in office but not in control.โ
Just this week Kemi Badenoch slammed Sir Keir for failing to answer a simple question about his latest u-turn on business rates, at a time when pub landlords are desperate for answers.
The Tory chief blasted: โHe didnโt answer the question about business rates, it sounds like he doesnโt know what his policy is and this has been a farce from start to finish!โ
A House of Commons spokesperson said: โWe provide content across a range of channels to signpost and explain the business of the House of Commons, with content regularly refreshed and updated.โ
