This is Arizona’s first Final Four appearance since 2001 and fifth all-time. Arizona previously made it to the tournament’s final weekend in 1988, 1994, 1997 and 2001.

The Wildcats won the national championship in 1997, defeating Kentucky in the title game, and they lost the title game in 2001 to Duke.

All of Arizona’s previous Final Four history came under head coach Lute Olson, who led the team from 1983 to 2007 and died in 2020. Tommy Lloyd shouted out Olson moments after the Wildcats’ Elite Eight win made him the only other men’s basketball coach in Arizona history to take a team to the Final Four.
