People frustrated at their parcels going to the wrong address have launched a petition calling for changes to the law. The petition to Parliament urged: “Mandate that all parcel delivery companies provide recipients with GPS location recorded at delivery, time, estimated GPS accuracy and a map showing the delivery location alongside the proof-of-delivery photo.

“This should only be available to the intended recipient and comply with UK data protection.”

Delivered to the wrong address

The campaigners claim this is a very common issue. The message warns: “Every day, thousands of consumers experience parcels being delivered to the wrong address.”

They say that courier companies will often send a photo of the item where it has been delivered. Yet this “frequently fails to identify where the parcel has been left”.

The petition sets out a list of extra legal obligations they want to apply to courier companies.

• The GPS location at point of delivery
• The time of delivery
• The estimated accuracy of the recorded location
• A map showing the recorded delivery location alongside the delivery photograph.

As this is an official petition to the UK Government, it has a chance of being delivered to the doorstep of Westminster. If the petition gets the support of 10,000 people, the Government will be obliged to pen a response.

If the petition reaches 100,000 signatures, the issue will be considered for debate in Parliament.
