As the newly coronated PM Andy Burnham extends Labour’s lead in the polls, Reform has decided to play its ace. Last week ghe party’s shadow home secretary Zia Yusuf was in Ceuta, the Spanish exclave where Moroccan and Spanish authorities colluded to allow thousands of North African invaders into Spanish territory. Thank God for Nigel Farage and Brexit, otherwise the UK could be in line to take in what could have been newly minted Spanish citizens under EU free movement rules, given Spain’s far-left PM Pedro Sanchez has already legitimated thousands of illegal migrants.

True, most of the Moroccan men who entered Ceuta last week have left, but only until they try their luck again. And they will! Hence Reform plans ‘Operation Fortress’, using the combined strength of Britain’s armed forces to stop hordes of illegal immigrants crossing the English Channel (hordes which may now include thousands who made it and will make it to Ceuta!).

While hand-wringing Labour says this is impossible, Reform disagree and Operation Fortress would intercept any unauthorised boat and detain its occupants, giving them water, food and a medical assessment before returning them under Naval escort.

Reform said it would set up a joint military command with units from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, RAF and British Army as well as a surveillance command to track incoming boats. Additionally, Reform would pass emergency legislation “as necessary” to give the joint command further required powers.

Reform says its plan would be in line with international law and that’s before a planned exit from the much-abused European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

As for the Tories – who recently sent their home affairs spokesman Chris Philp into the Channel to observe small boat crossings – who would trust a party which gave us record breaking immigration, never left the ECHR, botched Brexit, never repealed IR35 rules and saddled us with vertigo inducing debt levels?

Which brings us to Restore Britain and Rupert Lowe!

Over the weekend, Lowe made an overture to Farage for some type of deal between Reform and Restore, echoing Ben Habib’s calls for some form of United Right. Lowe no doubt acknowledges recent polling for Labour and the dangers of a split patriotic right-wing vote.

Whatever beef there is between Farage and Lowe, many supporters on both sides may not forgive them if personality clashes prevent a united front and allow a Leftist alliance to win a snap general election.

Lowe – in a video posted online – alluded to cooperation between Reform and Restore in Norfolk County Council (Lowe is a Norfolk MP and Reform is very strong in East Anglia) as an example of how both sides could work together on a national basis.

Lowe set some terms, some of which Farage would struggle to accept (such as a total ban on Kosher meat and preventing Tory ministers from serving at cabinet level), but others (such as mass deportations of all illegal immigrants and stronger welfare cuts) would be popular among many Reform supporters.

Some critics have speculated whether Lowe has set a trap for Farage: should the latter refuse the olive branch, some could interpret that as going soft on issues like illegal immigration. But as Lowe himself said, there is still ample common ground between both sides.

Meanwhile, the Reform boss came out saying he wanted to build a coalition bringing over those from other parties, while staying loyal to defecting Tories, suggesting there may be room for some compromise.

Certainly as polls shift for Labour given Burnham’s honeymoon period, the prospect of a snap election grows. Neither Reform nor Restore surely want a Rightwing civil war to allow a traffic light Lib-Lab-Green coalition to win and change Britain forever?

Reform needs to play its ace. Labour will never fix the migration chaos, while the hypocrital Tories should never be allowed to live down their failure to control our borders. With a budget slated for October 28 – and Labour’s polling certain to drop after that – all sides need to be ready to go to the people!
