Nigel Farage says Donald Trump ‘knows’ he will be Britain’s next PM | Politics | News
Nigel Farage has insisted Donald Trump “knows” he will be Britain’s next prime minister. The Reform UK leader said the US President sees similarities between his insurgent party and the Make America Great Again movement.
His comments come ahead of a joint press conference between Sir Keir Starmer and Mr Trump during the Republican’s state visit later today. Mr Farage told the Harry Cole Saves the West show on YouTube: โWe should view ourselves as being incredibly lucky that we have an American president with such a deep, emotional soft spot for the United Kingdom.
โWhen he was asked about electoral prospects in Britain, he said: โSure, Keir can beat my friend Nigel, as long as heโs tough on borders, tough on law and order and drills lots of oil and gas in the North Sea.โโ
Asked whether Mr Trump saw him as Sir Keirโs successor, Mr Farage added: โHe knows that. All the American administration are acutely aware of it.
โThey think they see some similarities in what theyโve done and what weโve done, and you know what, we speak the same language.โ
The Brexiteer is a close ally of the American leader joined him on the campaign trail in the 2016 and 2020 US presidential elections.
It comes as Reform is consistently leading national opinion polls with Labour and the Tories trailing behind.
Some Labour MPs this week suggested Sir Keir could be ousted if the elections in Scotland, Wales and large parts of England next May go badly.
