Nigel Farage to make huge general election announcement at Reform rally | Politics | News

Nigel Farage will lay out his vision for Britain under a Reform UK government in a major speech. At a rally in Birmingham on Monday, the Reform leader will announce a timetable for shadow cabinet appointments, including experts from outside politics.

He will say that his insurgent party is now picking candidates to run for Parliament as he gears up for the next general election. The Clacton MP, who is predicting an early ballot in the next year if Sir Keir Starmer is ousted, will also set out how the UK would look after five years of a Reform administration.

Mr Farage is expected to say: “Reform has now opened up parliamentary selection with the hope of selecting the brightest and best for the next general election.

“I will be bringing together a team to build an industrial strategy, one that can rebuild our national infrastructure and security that has been dismantled by the Tories and Labour.”

Mr Farage will use the rally to warn that a vote for the Conservatives risks keeping Labour in power.

He will predict that Kemi Badenoch’s party will lose its deposit in the upcoming Gorton and Denton by-election.

He is expected to say: “The Tories broke Britain and the arsonists are still at the top table for them.

“Mel Stride increased the benefits bill by billions as work and pensions secretary, Priti Patel is the architect of the Boriswave and Claire Coutinho imposed net zero on us all.

“The Tories are losing by-elections every week, they will lose their deposit in Gorton, which will be the first by-election in 40 years they lose their deposit.

“Theyโ€™re now irrelevant outside of London. A vote for the Conservatives risks keeping Labour and Starmer in office.”

It comes as Reform UK is consistently leading national opinion polls.

Mr Farage’s party now has eight MPs following a series of defections including ex-immigration minister Robert Jenrick and former Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Tory chairman Kevin Hollinrake said: โ€œNigel Farage is very good at shouting โ€˜broken Britainโ€™ from the sidelines, but very light on credible answers. Reformโ€™s entire pitch still boils down to his One-Man Band protest politics and wish-lists, itโ€™s not a serious plan to govern.

โ€œWhilst he is focused on his own personal interest, Kemi is working in the national interest and doing the hard work of holding this rotten Labour government to account.”
